Ophthalmic Assistant

Ophthalmic Assistant will assist Physician and evaluate patients, prepare patient for visits, escort to exam rooms, and use clinic exam equipment to perform Pacemetry, Wavescans, lensometers, applinatings, visual field tests, OCT, Fundus Photos.
Travel between Gouverneur office and Ogdensburg office will be required.
Full-Time, Days; $10-12.00/hr DOE
Job
Responsibilities:
Take patient history and complaints; documents properly in chart as instructed
Checks vision accurately, refracting when necessary
Checks patient's eye pressure and instills eye drops as needed
Performs and evaluates other further testing including OCT and photos when necessary
Scribes in the chart for Physician appropriately documenting all necessary information to be compliant for correct coding initiation
Writes all necessary prescriptions for patients, having Physician sign
Schedules special outside testing through appropriate facility ensuring proper documentation with correct codes
Ensures patient is informed of time and place of appointment
Check if pre-certification or referral is required for the following tests: MRI, CT Scan, SED Rates, and lab work
Keeps log to ensure Physician reviews results of scheduled tests
Makes appropriate referrals to Specialist as requested
Discusses with patient via telephone or face to face regarding appointments to outside facilities
Inquires with Specialist regarding participation in the patients insurance plan
Participates in mandatory training as required
Educate patients on available life style enhancements
Maintains order of exam rooms and prepares rooms for procedures
Cleans and disinfects surgery room after procedure
Cleans and sterilizes instruments after each procedure ensuring adequate stock
Checks exam rooms daily for used instruments to be sterilized and restocked
Maintains equipment including all lasers, autoclaves, and testing equipment
Stocks rooms with adequate supplies as needed
Maintains a list of all stock items and replenishes; utilizes listwhile restocking to ensure proper check off
Calls patients to follow up; returns phone calls within 24 hrs
Calls in prescriptions as needed
Maintains knowledge and compliance of OSHA regulations
Other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
COA/COT Certification, desired
Professionalism
General computer knowledge
Basic Math skills
Valid Driver's License
